About

The position that isn't there.

False 9 is a football clothing brand for people who actually play. No club crests, no player names, no shirt you could buy in a stadium shop. Just the parts of the game you'd only clock if you'd been on the pitch.

Independent·Unlicensed·Printed to order

Where this started

Three players, one argument

We're three high school players who have spent more hours arguing about football than we've spent doing almost anything else. Formations, transfers, whether a false nine is a role or an excuse. The arguments never went anywhere. The clothes did.

Everything we could find to wear was either a replica shirt with someone else's name on the back, or a big-brand tee that mentioned football the way an airport gift shop mentions a city. Nothing that spoke to the game the way we talk about it with each other.

So we made the first one for ourselves. False 9 is what happened after people asked where we got it.

What we make

One idea per shirt

Small drops. One idea per garment, printed clean and single-color, in cuts you'd wear to five-a-side and then keep on afterwards.

Every piece is printed to order, which means we're not sitting on boxes of stock and you're not paying for the ones nobody bought. It also means we can put out a design the week we think of it instead of the season after.

A design either lands with you or it doesn't. We're not going to explain the joke on the product page.

Team sheet

Who's on it

Three of us, and everyone plays out of position at least half the time.

  • 9DesignDraws the marks, picks the garments, decides what makes the drop and what gets binned.
  • 6Store & productionRuns the print-on-demand side — sizing, samples, shipping, and the things that go wrong before they reach you.
  • 10Words & socialsWrites everything you're reading, shoots the drops, and answers the DMs.

What we won't do

The rules

  • No club crests. We're not licensed, and we're not going to pretend otherwise by getting close to the line.
  • No player names. Nobody needs another shirt selling somebody else's career.
  • No hype. No countdowns, no "limited" that isn't, no copy telling you this shirt says something about you.
  • No explaining. If a design needs a paragraph underneath it, it wasn't finished.

Get in touch

Tell us we're wrong

We'd rather hear that a design missed than hear nothing. If you've got a shout for a drop, a fit question, or a complaint about the sizing, send it over — one of us reads everything.
